Thieves Steal Soldier's Engagement Ring
BROOMFIELD, Colo. (CBS4) ―
A soldier just back from Iraq is asking for help after someone stole all his Army gear and an engagement ring he'd just bought his girlfriend.
Danny Bockenstedt said he had just received his discharge orders a couple weeks ago and had loaded his military fatigues and a bulletproof vest in his car.
He says someone broke into the vehicle Sunday night and took everything, including the engagement ring he planned to have sized the next day for his girlfriend.
While the soldier says others have lost so much more, he admits money is tight and, as a single dad, he says he could use some help recovering his stuff.
"A lot of that military gear -- it's not questionable where it came from, so I'm hoping somebody has seen something or heard something."
Bockenstedt said he had just taken his children's Christmas presents out of the car that night, so it could have been worse.
He said that, in all, he lost more than $3,500 worth of stuff.
Broomfield police alerted all Colorado law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for the stolen army gear and the ring after Bockenstedt reported the thefts.
