Attorney Michael Andre Dead After Standoff
DENVER (AP/CBS4) ―
A police standoff at the home of a prominent Denver attorney is over. Officers said the man inside was found dead Friday evening.
Friends have identified the man, who took his own life, as Michael Andre. They also said he was having marital issues.
Andre represented Willie Clark. Police arrested Clark on a parole violation but say he may know something about the murder of Bronco Darrent Williams.
Officers said they found at least one gun inside the home.
Police had been trying to contact the man, who was barricaded inside a house in Denver's Cherry Creek North neighborhood, potentially armed with a handgun.
Officers tried to negotiate with the man and last heard from him around 3 p.m., police spokesman John White said. Officers used tear gas and other diversionary devices, then entered the unit and found the body.
"This is not the outcome we had hoped for," White said.
Police spokesman Sonny Jackson said officers received a report at about 9 a.m. that someone in the home near Cedar and S. Monroe may have threatened suicide.
Officers did not know how many people were in the house but did not believe any children were there, Jackson said.
A SWAT team and negotiators had been sent to the scene. Some neighbors were evacuated and roads closed, including Alameda.
