Colorado Springs Cuts July 4th Fireworks

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) ― Colorado Springs has canceled its annual Fourth of July fireworks display because of budget cuts.

The display costs between $80,000 and $100,000 and has been a tradition for 30 years.

The mayor and others usually raise money to pay for the fireworks. The city donates police and medical services and also pays to have Memorial Park cleaned up after the display.

Fort Carson puts on its annual fireworks show on July 3rd and is working with the city to it so people have a place to celebrate.

The Colorado Springs Philharmonic usually plays at the city's Independence Day event and now plans to perform at Fort Carson.
