No Charges To Be Filed In Police Taser Death
BOULDER, Colo. (AP) ―
No criminal charges will be against a Lafayette police officer who used a Taser stun device on a 22-year-old man who died afterward, the Boulder District Attorney's Office has announced.
Ryan Michael Wilson, 22, died Aug. 4 after running more than a half-mile from officers responding to a tip that marijuana was being grown in a field in Louisville.
Boulder County Coroner Thomas Faure concluded earlier that Wilson died of an irregular heartbeat caused by a combination of exertion, the stun-gun shock and a heart condition present since birth.
The District Attorney's Office investigated the death and Officer John Harris, who used the Taser after reporting Wilson appeared to reach for a knife clipped to his pants.
On Tuesday, the DA's office sent a letter to Lafayette police announcing there is not enough evidence to charge Harris with a crime and the officer did not use unreasonable force.
The Lafayette Police Department's internal investigation continues.
