The former Brighton Charter High School teacher accused of having sex with a student during a trip to Estes Park made a video court appearance in Fort Collins Friday afternoon. Carrie McCandless faces a second charge of contacting the student by phone in violation of a judge's order.
McCandless, 30, was advised of the new charge on Friday during the hearing. She was ordered to stay in jail at least through the weekend.
McCandless' attorney said the call to the alleged victim was probably a prank. Authorites said the student told them he recognized her voice.
McCandless' bond will be reconsidered during a hearing on Monday.
A preliminary hearing for McCandless is set for Feb. 22 in Fort Collins on the original charges.
