Marshall Had Earlier Encounter With Police
Broncos Wide Receiver Argued With Girlfriend At DIA
by Brian Maass
HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. (CBS4) ―
The events that led to Denver Broncos' wide receiver Brandon Marshall's arrest Monday night on charges of domestic violence and false imprisonment may have started 5 hours earlier at Denver International Airport, CBS4 investigator Brian Maass reports.
Marshall was arrested at about 6:30 p.m. Monday evening at his home in Highlands Ranch by Douglas County Sheriff's deputies.
Marshall and his girlfriend were at DIA as the NFL player was attempting to put her on a flight to Atlanta. Police were called to what one witness called a "squabble" between the couple at the Frontier Airlines ticket counter.
Sources told CBS4 Marshall and his girlfriend, Jameelah Watley, were arguing about who would pay for her plane ticket.
Another witness described Marshall as "respectful" during the altercation.
Denver police intervened and tried to mediate the dispute. Watley eventually headed for her flight and Marshall left the airport. No one was arrested at that time.
For some reason, Watley never boarded the flight and returned to Marshall's home where he was later arrested.
Marshall, 23, spent the night in jail and was released on a personal recognizance bond. He's due back in court next month.
