More than 100 people gathered at the Denver Public Library Friday morning to become United States citizens.
With American flags in hand, 127 people took an oath of allegiance to the country and were officially sworn in.
"My father and my grandfather both wanted to immigrate to the United States and I finally did it," said Urte Land from Germany. "So it means a lot to me."
Land has been waiting 10 years to become a citizen while Burundi immigrant, Rozine Ntiakrwa, has waited 5 years.
"It's a big day for me because I was waiting for this moment for so long so I'm glad it happened," Ntiakrwa said.
The new citizens were excited to officially become Americans because of the opportunities they look forward to.
"It's great that I can vote, to get an American passport," Land said. "It's been a long way to go."
The group represents 45 countries including many from Germany, India and Mexico.
"It's a special day," said Cruz Amparo Fraco, a Columbian immigrant. "I've been waiting for 17 years working hard in this country. I'm so excited it makes me cry."
The Denver Public Library partnered with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to present the swearing-in ceremony.
