Judge Rebukes Attorneys In Nacchio Case
DENVER (AP) ―
A judge sharply rebuked prosecutors and Joe Nacchio's attorneys at a hearing Thursday in the insider trading case against the former Qwest chief executive.
U.S. District Judge Edward Nottingham said a series of motions filed by the two sides this week appeared to be similar to children kicking sand at each other.
He told the attorneys to "stop whining" and focus on trial preparations.
Nottingham refused a defense request for a 60 day delay in the trial but ordered prosecutors to speed up the process of turning evidence over to Nacchio's lawyers.
Nacchio is accused of selling millions of dollars of stock based on inside knowledge that Qwest Communications International Incorporated would be unable to meet revenue targets.
He has pleaded not guilty to 42 counts and the trial is set to start March 19.
