CU Student Also Shot In Darrent Williams' Limo
by Shaun Boyd
BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) ―
A student at the University of Colorado was a passenger in the Humvee limousine that Darrent Williams was riding in when he was shot and killed.
Nicole Reindl was struck in the head by a bullet, but amazingly survived. She was released from the hospital Tuesday with the bullet still lodged in her head.
The student's father, Ron Reindl, said doctors told them the bullet isn't doing any harm right now and you can't even tell its there, it's actually in tissue outside of the skull.
Ron said Reindl and her friend were out celebrating New Year's Eve. Her friend knew some of the passengers in the limo and recognized one of the Broncos so they accepted a ride to their car.
The limo was full so a couple guys got out letting them in.
Moments before the shooting, Ron said his daughter received a call on her cell phone. She bent over to hear what the caller was saying above the noise in the humvee and that's when the windows were shattered by bullets.
"If Nic had been sitting straight up instead of the bullet grazing her head, it would have hit her point blank," Ron said.
He said Reindl has a severe headache and needs rest but is doing well, considering the circumstances.
The 21-year-old is a senior at CU with one semester left. Ron said he's uncertain if she will go back right away.
He said the family is scared for her safety right now with the gunman still on the loose.
