Police Release ID Of Murder Victim In Cherry Creek

DENVER (CBS4) ― A woman was shot and killed at a town home in Denver's Cherry Creek neighborhood late Wednesday night.

The shooting was reported at about 11 p.m. near Harrison and Bayaud, one block west of Colorado Blvd.

Kalonniann Clark, 28, was found suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. She was transported to the Denver Health Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Police said Clark may have been shot by unknown males who forced their way into her home and shot her as she tried to leave. They believe this was a gang related case.

Neighbors said they heard gunshots and a woman screaming at the time of the shooting.

"A little before 11, I heard a couple of cracks that sounded like they were from inside the house," said Clinton Holland, a neighbor. "I got up and looked around, I thought one of them hit our house but I wasn't sure. It sounded like from the echoes that it was coming from the back of the house so I looked around, didn't see anything and decided to go to bed because it was all quiet."

One man who lives near by said he had seen the police at the town home several times before since the residents moved in a couple months ago.

Authorities said Clark was a victim in an attempted murder last year. The suspect in that case was slated to go on trial next week.

Police have not named any suspects or identified a motive in Clark's death.

Brian Hicks, 27, of Denver faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, illegal discharge of a firearm and possession of a weapon by a previous offender in the June2005 attack, according to court documents.

He has been jailed since Nov. 9 on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance. Bail has been set at $500,000.

The Denver Police Department is offering a $10,000 reward to anyone for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
