Prosecutors Want Details On Nacchio Defense
DENVER (AP) ―
Prosecutors in the insider trading case against former Qwest CEO Joseph Nacchio have told a judge that defense lawyers need to be more specific about classified information they may want to use.
In a court filing Thursday, U.S. Attorney William Leone said Nacchio's lawyers must identify what material they plan to use so the judge can determine whether information should be redacted.
Leone requested a hearing on the matter.
Nacchio is charged with 42 counts of insider trading stemming from the sale of $101 million in Qwest stock in 2001. Prosecutors allege he had information unavailable to the public that Qwest would miss its revenue targets.
He pleaded not guilty and has repeatedly denied wrongdoing.
Defense attorneys have suggested Nacchio may have known about lucrative national security work that could have made him optimistic about Qwest's future.
A pretrial conference is set for June 9.
