An East High School student's leg was amputated after being injured Saturday night while getting into an SUV limousine to go to an after-prom party.
East High School's Web site confirmed the victim to be 17-year-old Molly Bloom.
Police said the limousine driver started to drive away before the teenager was completely inside the vehicle, causing her to fall to the ground where she was struck by the limo's rear tire, seriously injuring her leg.
"You know, our thoughts and prayers are with them and I just hope for a speedy recovery," said
Richard Perricone, an executive at Fifth Ave 'N Style Limousine.
The driver, Stanley Sample, works for Perricone's company and has been employed there since February.
"He's a very earnest employee, always on time and never had any indications of any problems, whatsoever, for any type of work he's done," Perricone said.
The company said Sample is on leave pending the investigation with the police and the insurance company. Denver police said Sample was cooperative and no tickets were issued the night of the accident.
Once a report is completed, it will be presented to the District Attorney for determination of any charges.
Bloom was taken to Denver Health Medical Center where she was listed in critical, but stable condition.
