Magazine: Louisville Is The Best Front Range City

LOUISVILLE, Colo. (CBS4) ― One Front Range city has bragging rights after Money magazine released its newest list of the best places to live.

The business publication listed Louisville as the fifth best place in the country to live, based on criteria such as air quality, crime, schools, housing and leisure activities.

Louisville, population 18,937, is nestled between the mountains and Denver. The old mining town has lots of young families.

"It's nice," said Chris Dondelinger, a Louisville native who decided to stay and raise a family here. "Its wonderful living here."

Mayor Chuck Sisk said his city acts more like a small town, a place where you know your neighbors.

"Every Friday night we have a street fair with a band," he said. "On Saturdays we have a street market downtown."

Citizens of Louisville take pride in schools and families.

"This week the [Chamber of Commerce] is sponsoring a spaghetti dinner," Sisk said, while pointing out the charm of historic main street, where there isn't even a stoplight.

Sisk said the convenience of a nearby shopping district with big box retail stores, hotels and a theatre adds to the luxury of living in Louisville.

"Whether doing Labor Day activities or Fourth of July, this community says, 'I want to be in Lousiville, I'm not looking to leave and go somewhere else,' " Sisk said.

But paradise comes at a price: the average home sells for about $300,000. Those who live here say quality of life is priceless.

"It has everything you'd be looking for in a place to live," Dondelinger said.

The other cities in Money's top ten are (not in numerical order): Moorestown, New Jersey; Bainbridge Island, Washington; Naperville, Illinois; Vienna, Virginia; Barrington, Rhode Island; Middleton, Wisconsin; Peachtree City, Georgia; Chatham, New Jersey and Mill Valley, California.
