Nearly 300 people attended Monday night's meeting of the city council in Commerce City to voice their views on a proposed racetrack that could support NASCAR events near E-470 and 96th Ave. The majority of residents were opposed to the idea.
The meeting had to be moved to a basketball court in the city's recreation center to accommodate everyone in attendance.
While many spoke in opposition of the racetrack, there were also concerns the city council will hire a new city manager who is pro-NASCAR.
City council members said that was unlikely to happen before a new city council is elected after the April 3 election.
Hundreds of residents turned out in opposition of the racetrack even though it wasn't on the meeting's agenda Monday night.
