Wolf Sanctuary Looking For New Home
by Andrea Lopez
TELLER COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) ―
A sanctuary that provides homes for animals in trouble is finding itself in need of help.
The Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center in Teller County needs a new home.
"This center out here is an educational center," said Darlene Kobobel with the wildlife center. "We have 12 wolves out here, 2 coyotes, 6 fox, all which have been rescued from various situations."
Kobobel's lease on the land is up and she hopes to secure a new piece of land for the animals.
"I have seven acres worth of enclosures. Each enclosure is an acre in size per two wolves," Kobobel said. "There's over 850 poles out here that will need to be removed."
Kobobel said she put every last penny down on a new piece of land, but she still needs the money to help secure it.
"If this move is not successful, I fear what would happen for the future of these animals here," Kobobel said.
She also needs more manpower to help move.
"So, we're literally picking up this entire sanctuary here," Kobobel said.
Kobobel said the wolves have found permanent sanctuary in her heart. She just hopes she can secure a place where the wolves can finally call their own.
"To know in your heart that you never have to move again is probably one of the best feelings that I could ever feel at this point."
Kobobel said she hopes to move the sanctuary in the spring.
