The owner of an animal sanctuary near Brighton has many special needs critters in her care and needs help to continue caring for them.
Many of the 300 creatures at the Creative Acres Sanctuary are injured and previously abused or abandoned. The outdoor animals include emus, peacocks, and geese.
Maxine Mager runs the sanctuary and said the snow has kept food supplies from being delivered.
The ranch is also short on propane that is delivered by truck and is used to heat a houseful of indoor animal life, including a lizard that watches CBS4 from the bathtub, rabbits in the bathroom, and a chicken in the shower.
"Three weeks ago, we had our biggest fundraiser and a snowstorm ruined that," Mager said. "So, we haven't had a chance to get all our money or anything and so we need hay for the horses, propane, and general feed for the animals."
Mager said she needs to have snow plowed from the barn so delivery trucks can get close; otherwise volunteers will have to carry the feed and hay over a fence and through the snow.
