Teacher Appears In Court For Alleged Sex Crimes

Carrie McCandless, 29, turned herself in to authorities Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2006 on a charge of having a sexual encounter with a 17-year-old student.

A teacher in Brighton accused of having sexual contact with a teenage student during a trip to Estes Park was back in court Friday morning.
Carrie McCandless made her first appearance before a district court judge in Larimer County.
McCandless was fired from
Brighton Charter High School and faced charges of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The charges came after an incident between McCandless and a 17-year-old student during a trip to the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park back in October.
She is free on bond and could face up to 12 years in prison if convicted.
