Police Still Have No Sign Of Missing Marine

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) ― Authorities say they have no good leads in the search for a Marine suspected by sheriff's deputies of staging his own disappearance in September.

Lance Cpl. Lance Hering, 21, of Boulder was reported missing by a companion in Eldorado Canyon State Park.

The companion, Steve Powers, 20, of Boulder, first told authorities Hering had hurt his head in a climbing accident and disappeared when the companion went to get help. Powers later told investigators the disappearance was staged because Hering did not want to return to the Marines, sheriff's Cmdr. Phil West said.

West has said investigators have video of Hering buying a bus ticket in Denver a day after his reported disappearance.

Powers was ticketed for false reporting.
