Lance Hering, a Marine who was reported missing last week, is now accused of staging his disappearance according to Boulder County Sheriff's Department investigators.

The father of a Marine missing from Boulder pleaded publicly for his son to come home on Tuesday.
Lance Corporal Lance Hering has been missing since Aug. 29. Authorities believe he staged his disappearance to get out of military service.
Hering's father, Lloyd, spoke to reporters , issuing a public plea for his son to come home.
The 21-year-old Marine was reported missing by a friend, who then told investigators Hering fell during a hike near Boulder. That friend, Steve Powers, has recanted.
The Marine's father said the family doesn't know if anything Powers says is true. He also speculated that Hering might be the victim of foul play.
Hering is listed as "Duty Status Unknown" by the Marine Corps. He may be charged with desertion if he doesn't show up at California's Camp Pendleton by Monday.
