Mountain Lions Spotted Near Elementary Schools
BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) ―
Several mountain lion sightings have been reported near two Boulder elementary schools.
Mesa Elementary and Bear Creek Elementary are close to the foothills and mountain lion sightings are not uncommon. What makes the sightings unusual is that neighbors reported seeing the big cats in groups of three or four.
Mountain lions usually wander alone and not in packs.
School officials said they always take sightings seriously.
"Anything that involves the safety of our children we take seriously," said Briggs Gamblin with the Boulder Valley School District. "What much of a threat do we really believe this is to our children? We don't believe it's a very high threat but we take it very seriously."
The district has urged children to walk in groups.
Wildlife officials said if the mountain lions are traveling together, it could be two males courting a female cat or a mother with her kittens.
