CU Chief To Meet With Simpson About Lawsuit
BOULDER, Colo. (AP) ―
University of Colorado President Hank Brown will meet privately with a woman who sued the school alleging she was raped by football players and recruits, a university spokeswoman said Monday.
A meeting between Brown and Lisa Simpson and possibly her parents will take place in the next two weeks, university spokeswoman Michele McKinney told The Denver Post in Tuesday's editions.
Brown and Simpson agreed no lawyers or reporters will be present, McKinney said.
Simpson had asked for such a meeting in an interview broadcast Sunday on a local TV station in Denver.
"I think it would be a really wonderful thing for (Brown) if he could just acknowledge that there was a problem," she said.
"That's all I wanted in the first place was for them to make sure it didn't happen to any other women, and I don't think any other women should be treated the way I was treated by them," she said.
Simpson, who has agreed to be publicly identified in news reports, alleges she was sexually assaulted at an off-campus party in 2001. No one has been criminally charged with sexual assault, but a lawsuit she filed against CU sparked a scandal in 2004 over the CU football program's recruiting practices.
The suit, which was dismissed last year, alleged CU violated federal law by fostering an environment that allowed sexual assaults to occur.
On Friday, her lawyers filed an appeal to revive the lawsuit.
