Boulder County Faces Pine Beetle Threat

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) ― Scientists said the mountains of Boulder County west of the continental divide faced a serious threat from pine beetles.

Forest entomologist Ingrid Aguyao said the outbreak that began on the Western Slope has been killing lodgepole pines, most of them above 8,500 feet.

Millions of ponderosa died in the late 1970s in the same area.

Scientists fear this problem could be bigger.
