A young mountain lion was caught in a trap early Wednesday morning in the Devil's Thumb neighborhood of Boulder, according to the Division of Wildlife.
DOW officials said there had been a lot of reported mountain lion activity in the neighborhood which runs along some open space. The lion was apparently catching domestic pets, foxes and deer near where children were playing.
There was also a report of a lion following people up a nearby trail. The hikers had trouble scaring off the cat.
That's when the DOW set a trap to catch the mountain lion. The trap was two 50 gallon drums welded together with a gate on the outside that would be triggered when a switch inside, that was baited with deer road kill, was tampered with.
That's what happened at about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.
DOW officials said the mountain lion was 10-months-old and a female. She weighed 50 pounds and was in good condition.
The DOW was moving the mountain lion to the Western Slope.
