A man pleaded not guilty Monday to first-degree murder in a 2004 shooting death at a park.
Sir Mario Owens, 21, is accused of shooting Gergory Vann, 23, after a confrontation at a Fourth of July party.
Trial was scheduled for January. Prosecutors are expected to announce on Oct. 19 if they will seek the death penalty.
Robert Keith Ray, 20, is also awaiting trial in Vann's slaying.
Owens, Ray and a third man also face first-degree murder charges in the 2005 shooting deaths of two people, one of whom was scheduled to testify against Ray in Vann's slaying.
The witness, Javad Marshall-Fields, and his fiancee, Vivian Wolfe, were killed in June 2005.
