Longtime Colorado homeless advocate John Parvensky has been elected president of the board of directors of the National Coalition for the Homeless, based in Washington, D.C.
Since 1986, Parvensky has been president and chief executive officer of the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless, which delivers housing, health care, counseling and other services to more than 15,000 homeless men, women and children each year.
He became involved with the national coalition more than 20 years ago while helping to create the federal McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, which is dedicated to homeless assistance programs.
The National Coalition for the Homeless is a nonprofit advocacy group that works to end homelessness by focusing on housing, economic and health care justice, and civil and voting rights.
Parvensky was elected to a two-year term.
