Family Of Missing Marine Optimistic

DENVER (CBS4) ― The family of a missing hiker asked the community for help in the search Sunday.

Lance Hering, a Marine on leave, fell in Eldorado Canyon State Park Tuesday night and hit his head.

Just before sundown Saturday, search crews found the first sign that Hering might still be alive; a pair of socks similar to the kind he wears. A team of bloodhounds went back in, but couldn't pick up anything.

The latest finding keeps Hering's family optimistic.

"You get fear, you get a lot of energy," Lance's father Lloyd Hering said. "My son is strong and I think we are going to find him."

A Denver Police helicopter equipped with an infrared heat sensor flew over the canyon several times Saturday, but could not find anything.
