Boulder Co. Settles Lawsuit Over Traffic Accident

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) ― Boulder County has paid $125,000 to settle a lawsuit by a former University of Colorado student who says she was permanently injured three years ago when a sheriff's deputy rear-ended the car she was in.

Alex Eason filed the lawsuit in May, accusing Deputy Dale Sherratt of "recklessness and negligence" that left her with permanent brain injuries. She says she was in the front passenger seat of a friend's car in May 2006 when the deputy's marked patrol car hit them from behind.

Sherratt was issued a ticket for careless driving. Andrew McDonald, an attorney representing Boulder County in the case, previously acknowledged the deputy was at fault.

The sheriff's office issued a statement Tuesday saying that it maintains an "excellent overall safety record."
