Aurora Police: Child Hit More Than 50 Times
by Jodi Brooks
AURORA, Colo. (AP) ―
Police believe a 3-year-old Aurora girl who died earlier this month was kicked and struck more than 50 times with a coat hanger and broken pieces of a metal towel rack.
An autopsy performed on Jolyn Torpoh was inconclusive. Her mother, Susie Ida Quartey, 34, has been arrested on suspicion of child abuse and second degree assault. She's being held in the Arapahoe County jail.
Police went to Quartey's home April 7 after the woman called to say her child wasn't breathing. Police said the girl wasn't conscious when they arrived and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The arrest affidavit said Quartey told police that her daughter's injuries came from a fall the day before.
Quartey is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday after being unable to appear Monday because of a medical condition.
