Case Involves Astrolube Wrestling At Boulder Bar

Prepared for the Web by Jesse Sarles, cbs4denver.com
BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) ― A young woman contacted police with concerns about a wrestling match she participated in at a Boulder bar that took place in a pool of personal lubricant.

Wrestling in lubricant at bars is not illegal and appears to be gaining popularity as an alternative to mud wrestling.

A video on YouTube shows scenes from a match believed to be the one in question, and police are apparently using it as evidence. It shows two women in tight clothes that reveal their underwear grappling. A referee is presiding above, and the video has the title "Girl on Girl Astrolube Lube Wrestling."

The wrestling took place at the Pit, a relatively new bar on the Hill in Boulder located across the street from the University of Colorado's campus.

A patron told CBS4 he didn't see anything that looked illegal that evening.

"The girls were cheering the girls on. The guys were cheering the girls on," Marcus Bernier said. "It was fun. It was a totally chill atmosphere."

Police said the participant who contacted them came out of the bar carrying some of her clothes and crying. She is not 21 and told police she was served alcohol at the bar. She also said she was pressured into taking part in the match with her friend.

Other matches apparently took place that night, and other contestants said they weren't coerced into participating.

The bar provided the outfits to the wrestlers.

"I don't think this type of event is necessarily illegal ... we are looking at all aspects of what occurred that night that night," Boulder police spokeswoman Julie Brooks said.

Police on patrol on the Hill that night said they saw 20 to 25 people hanging on the outside fence of the bar and making it sway back and forth. It caught officers attention, but Brooks said they didn't shut down the bar.

It's unclear if police will file any charges in the case. They have brought the matter to the attention of the liquor board in Boulder.

The bar's owner was unavailable for comment.

The Web site for Astrolube touts the product as "the original lube wrestling kit."
