June: Retired detective Tom Bennett is hired by the Boulder district attorney's office to lead a refocused investigation. 2004: June 4: The Ramseys' attorney says DNA found in JonBenet's underwear did not match any samples in an FBI database of convicted violent offenders. 2006: June 24: Patsy Ramsey dies at 49 following a long battle with ovarian cancer. Aug. 16: Lacy says a suspect in JonBenet's slaying has been arrested in Thailand. Aug. 17: Suspect John Mark Karr says "he was there" when JonBenet died, but that her death was an accident. He is then flown from Thailand to California and booked into jail. Aug. 24: Suspect John Mark Karr flies from California to Boulder where he is booked into the Boulder County Jail. Aug. 28: Boulder County district attorney drops charges against suspect John Mark Karr after tests show his DNA doesn't match that of the foreign DNA found on JonBenet Ramsey's body when she was killed. 2008: July 9: A new type of DNA testing in the summer once again failed to link the family of JonBenet Ramsey to her death. The new results reportedly prompted Boulder County DA Mary Lacy to meet with John Ramsey and to give him a letter of apology, clearing the family as suspects.
