Search Warrants Issued In Denver Prostitution Ring
Contact reporter Brian Maass at bmaass@cbs.com
DENVER (CBS4) ―
Federal agents looking into the "Denver Players" prostitution ring have executed search warrants on numerous Yahoo and Microsoft email accounts.
According to federal documents, investigators executed search warrants for email accounts belonging to Brenda Stewart, the owner and operator of Denver Players/Denver Sugar, and for email accounts belonging to one of the service's employees, Heather Bruck, also known as "Kitty Crimson."
Investigators sought and obtained thousands of files of sent, deleted and received emails from the women's various email accounts.
The search warrants are the latest twist in an ongoing federal investigation into the upscale prostitution ring. According to one of the women who worked for the service, Denver Players charged men about $300 an hour for sex. She spoke to CBS4 on the condition her name not be revealed. She said the agency catered to Denver's elite: wealthy businessmen, lawyers, judges and professional athletes. But all that came to an end in January when federal agents moved in, seizing business records, client lists and other evidence from the service, which employed about 30 women.
Federal documents accuse the business owner, Brenda Stewart, of money laundering and running a prostitution business.
In another development, a prominent Denver money manager said he loaned money to Brenda Stewart, but he said he had no idea she may have been involved in a prostitution ring.
Investment manager Grant Davis runs Davis Capital Management in the Cherry Creek area. It is a "boutique" financial company that advises individuals and foundations on how to invest millions of dollars.
Davis told CBS4 investigator Brian Maass he met the accused madam, Stewart, through a friend. He said he knew Stewart socially and met her for drinks on numerous occasions. Davis said he thought Stewart was a college student studying for a psychology degree and loaned her money to fix up her kitchen.
"I haven't heard of Denver Players," Davis said when first contacted by CBS4."I don't know anything about this," he said weeks after the well publicized break-up of Denver Players.
