Sexy Texts Lead To Denver Officer's Demotion
Written by Brian Maass
DENVER (CBS4) ―
A Denver police sergeant has been demoted after the department says he sent a female recruit sexy text messages and made personal phone calls to the woman.
Denver Manager of Safety Al Lacabe ordered Sergeant Kevin Jackson demoted to Police Officer 1st Grade on Oct. 16 following an internal affairs investigation. Jackson filed an appeal of the demotion on Oct. 23.
According to a brief synopsis of the investigation, an unnamed female "was a recruit officer at the Denver Police Academy, you sent her several text messages and made several personal phone calls to her. In one of these text messages, you told her that you wanted to kiss her. You were assigned as the class commander of that recruit class."
Jackson has been with the Denver Police Department since 1991. Documents filed with the city indicate the department found Jackson's contact with the female recruit violated several deaprtmental rules and regulations.
In his appeal, Jackson's lawyer Michael T. Lowe writes that the demotion "constitutes an abuse of discretion" and the penalty being imposed "is disproportionate in comparison to other members of the Denver Police Department under similar circumstances."
CBS4 left a message with Lowe at his office Tuesday morning.
Jackson received the Medal of Valor and 17 other commendations according to city records. He has also been subject to departmental discipline 13 times since 1992.
