Larimer County deputies responded to the home of Richard and Mayumi Heene on a 911 hangup call in February of this year. The case was categorized as a "family disturbance" with one deputy concluding he had "reasonable suspicion to believe that a physical altercation may have occurred ..." However. no one was arrested and there was apparently no further action taken.
The hangup call came from the Heene home Feb. 8 around midnight. A responding deputy reported that as he approached the home, "I heard a male voice yelling quite loudly."
He said the man "sounded angry." He heard a woman's voice "that sounded like a scream or a squeal."
The deputy recounted that Richard Heene answered the door but was puzzled why anyone would have called 911. The deputy contacted Mayumi Heene who said "nothing happened."
But the deputy said he noticed a red mark on her left cheek that was swelling and turning red. She repeated that nothing had happened saying she wears contacts and "there was an irritation with one of her contacts." The deputy noted that Mrs. Heene would not look at him and kept trying to stay busy during their conversation.
She told the deputy she felt safe in the home and that there was no reason anyone should worry about her safety.
The deputy took pictures of her injuries then spoke again with Richard Heene who said nothing had happened -- the yelling had been him yelling at his children who had been up past their bedtime.
The deputy concluded he did not have enough probable cause for an arrest but he indicated he had "resonable suspicion" that a "physical altercation" had taken place.
