Personal Information Sent To Wrong Customers
DENVER (CBS4) ―
A major insurance company has promised to take action following a CBS4 investigation.
AIG Insurance has apparently been sending some confidential medical records to the wrong people. A man in Castle Rock received private information for two people after he filed a claim with AIG.
"I found somebody else's medical records, complete with social security numbers, phone numbers, addresses; everything I needed to steal their identity," insurance claimant Robert Anderson said.
He sent the records back to AIG which then returned the same records to him. Then he got somebody else's medical records. They showed one person had been treated by Denver Health. There was mention of seeing a psychiatrist.
AIG told CBS4, "While we believe we have adequate safeguards in place to prevent the improper disclosure of such information, we intend to investigate this matter and take appropriate remedial action, including additional staff training."
AIG added it maintains physical, electronic and procedural safeguards to guard customers' information.
