School Principal Accused of Fondling Male Students

Silver State Christian Fires Daniel Brock

Written by Brian Maass
MORRISON, Colo. (CBS4) ― The principal of Silver State Christian School in Morrison repeatedly fondled one of his male students and touched others on their genitals, according to an arrest warrant affidavit unsealed Tuesday.

CBS4 first revealed in April that Daniel Brock, 36, was under investigation for allegedly inappropriate conduct with male students. Since those reports, Jefferson County prosecutors have charged Brock with sex assault on a child by a person in a position of trust. Prosecutors now say there are at least two student victims.

Brock had been on paid administrative leave for several months, but at a meeting with parents May 28, School President and Senior Pastor Les Heinze said Brock was being fired as of May 31.

"Our decision in releasing Mr. Brock is not a reflection on our belief that he's either innocent or guilty," Heinze told parents. "Because we don't know. For us, it is that we can't continue to pay him and hire another principal."

After his Tuesday appearance in Jefferson County court, Brock and his attorney, Matthew Giacomini, declined to answer any questions.

According to the newly released court documents, Brock asked male students questions like, "Have you ever had sex? Do you (masturbate)? Have you f___ her yet? Oral sex is good because bodily fluids are good for you." (Click here to read the complete arrest warrant affidvit)

But the affidavit goes on to say that Brock's sexual conduct with students extended well beyond discussing their sex lives. One male student told investigators Brock fondled him during a senior trip to California. The student told investigators that Brock took 11 seniors on the trip with no other chaperones. The first night they spent at a motel in Las Vegas where the student said Brock insisted on sleeping in the same bed as the teenager. The student described the night as "very awkward" with Brock asking sexual questions as he lay in bed next to the student.

After arriving in California, the student said Brock, a married father, "rubbed his leg as well as his private area." The student said it happened "on numerous occasions."

The student told investigators that in his junior year, Brock told him "what happens between us stays between us." The young man went on to say that after authorities began investigating Brock's relationship with students, Brock called him to say, "If they ask you anything, don't tell them anything."

Before he got a lawyer, Brock told an investigator with the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office that he had not touched the student on his genitals.

At the May 28 meeting with parents, School President Heinze said, "We're embarrassed, we're struggling. We've been operating the school over 50 years and we've not had an incident like this happen."

Brock is scheduled to return to court July 17 for a preliminary hearing.

The Jefferson County District Attorney's Office is asking anyone with additional information on the case to call Investigator Dave Lynn at (303) 271-6800.
