DENVER (CBS4) ― Denver Marathon organizers hope to inspire runners with a Celebrity Inspiration Run.

For the first time this year, 13 celebrities will take part in a two-mile relay along the course. Race participants now have the chance to bid online to run along side of their favorite celebrities.

"With the Denver Marathon Celebrity Inspiration Run, the goal is to encourage everyday people to find the inspiration to run with someone they admire while benefiting a worthy charity," race director Anton Villatoro said in a prepared statement.

The online auction is being held at www.denvermarathon.com until Oct. 7. Registered marathon runners can bid to run with their favorite celebrity. They'll also be invited to a special motivational dinner the night before the race. Money raised through the online auction will go to the charity of choice for each celebrity.

Celebrities include: former Bronco Bill Romanowsk, CBS4 sportscaster Vic Lombardi, MTV's Real World Denver cast member Alex Smith, Scott Elrod of the TV drama "Men in Trees," Marni Rachich, "Peekaboo Screech" of the Denver Roller Dolls, Miss Colorado 2007 Maggie Ireland, extreme skier Chris Anthony and Jake Schroeder, who is the lead singer of Opie Gone Bad, Rowdy Gaines, Olympic swimmer, Maggie Ireland, Miss Colorado 2007, Ami Cusack, cast member of CBS' "Survivor Vanuatu", Whitney Gustafson, a Bronco cheerleader, Stephen Keel, a Colorado Rapids player, and Dave McGillivray, the Denver Marathon race director.

When asked who he thought might sign up to run with him, Jake Schroeder joked, "Somebody who doesn't want to be pushed very hard. Somebody that's totally out of shape. That we can have cigars. We're going to walk and have donuts. We're going to walk and have cigars and donuts."
