Most dieters know to stay away from sweets and fatty foods but they may not realize there are other foods which can actually increase one's appetite.
A study in the journal Medical Hypothesis found some foods will actually make people eat more over the course of the day starting with breakfast.
"Cereals may satisfy the early morning hunger but in an hour or two you can feel empty," said CBS4 Medical Editor Dr. Dave Hnida. "One study found people who eat two eggs each morning eat less over the course of the day."
Bread before a meal may trigger hunger hormones causing people to actually eat more calories in the meal.
Fruit juice as a snack may sound like a healthy choice but Hnida said it's another choice that may make a person hungrier.
It's been previously reported diet sodas and beverages can cause weight gain. Scientists believe they somehow trigger the hunger center of the brain. Those using artificial sweeteners should limit it to one a day.
When it comes to a bedtime snack, avoid anything more than a small one. It's the time of day a small bowl of cereal might just do the trick. Anything large, either portion-wise or calorie-wise, can cause the body to release hunger hormones the next day.
A real key may be "reverse eating." Most people skip breakfast then add more calories with each meal. It's better to reverse that order and make sure to take in most of your calories before 1 p.m.
