Some leaders in Barack Obama's cabinet got a look at Denver's sustainable communities.
Washington's top brass in transportation, housing and urban development and the Environmental Protection Agency joined Mayor John Hickenlooper and Sen. Michael Bennet. They took a look at the South Lincoln Park area. It's a neighborhood where planners started by looking at transit.
Rep. Diana DeGette says her peers look at Denver as a model.
"We you have transit-oriented development, you not only improve the transportation in your region, but you also improve housing, you improve commercial opportunities and you have a real opportunity to improve the environment," DeGette said.
The neighborhood is getting new help -- $10 million in stimulus money to improve energy efficiency in homes.
