CU Aims For 'Zero-Waste' Season At Folsom Field

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) ― While the University of Colorado football team tries to rack up points on the scoreboard this season, school officials say they want fans in the stands aiming for zero -- as in "zero-waste."

On Tuesday, school officials announced a plan aimed at making Folsom Field the greenest major college or professional sports stadium in the country.

Officials say garbage cans will be replaced with recycling and composting bins and concessions will be served in environmentally-friendly materials.

Officials expect at least 90 percent of stadium waste to be recycled or composted this season.

To offset energy used for powering stadium and team travel, the school plans to invest in local carbon-reduction projects.

The program is called "Ralphie's Green Stampede", after the school's live buffalo mascot.
