Reptile Farm Offers Gator Wrestling

ALAMOSA, Colo. (CBS4) ―

Tucked away in the San Luis Valley is the perfect habitat for alligators and that's where Colorado Gators Alligator Farm and Reptile Park set up shop.

The constant thermal temperatures mean the alligators are comfortable all year long. But even a gator needs a check-up every now and then.

That's where gator wrangler Noah Mather comes in.

"We like to bring the gators in every so often," Mather said, "and check them for wounds and see if there is any medication they need. Of course, that's a lot of fun to watch."

Mather wrestles the gators into a submissive position, in front of a live audience.

He'll even give the bravest members a chance to wrestle a gator on their own.

"The only alligator that you are worried about biting you is the one that you're not on the back of ," is the advice he offers.

Mather said the key for amateurs is to listen carefully and do what they are told.

"There's a milion things that could happen to you in a day," Mather said, "but you don't let it slow you down."
