Evergreen Arts Center Strives To Bring Variety

EVERGREEN, Colo. (CBS4) ―

Tucked away in the community of Evergreen is the Center for Arts Evergreen, a center with a mission to bring a wide variety of influences in the arts to the Colorado Foothills.

"You can see the variety of art styles and art medium expressed in the show and that goes for all our shows," Steve Sumner, the center's executive director told Colorado Getaways producer Doug Whitehead.

But the center sees its mission as reaching beyond its four walls.

"We also feel very strongly ... to promote all the arts, especially in all the arts in Evergreen. We have great music, theater and a big jazz festival in the summer."

The center has a hallway dedicated to elementary schools in the mountain communities.

"It's a little humbling. We talk about creativity and we talk about as professional artists being creative people and then these youngsters come in and really show us stuff which is just so imaginative."

Sumner says the center and Evergreen is actually the perfect Sunday getaway.

"We're five minutes off I-70. We're 25 minutes from downtown Denver. Someone can leave Denver at 10, 10:30 on a Sunday morning, come through Evergreen, enjoy the shops and galleries, have a wonderful lunch ... and be back by 5 in the afternoon."
