Stopping to smell the flowers can also reveal nature's most intricate patterns.
Castlewood Canyon State Park is located east of Castle Rock and offers a great opportunity for families to get out and enjoy a variety of Colorado landscapes.
It offers wide vistas of not only the mountains but the plains.
Guides at the park offer hikes which draw attention to the smallest details of nature. The guides take time to point out the patterns that can be found in the flowers and fauna. That includes the double spiral of pine cones, the star bursts in cactus and the star patterns found in many flowers.
The park encompasses 2,136 acres in the Black Forest and is a designated Colorado natural area.
Castlewood Canyon is open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. every day. A variety of organized activities are offered through the visitors' center.
