The sagging economy is having a very big impact on Colorado's tourism industry.
The company that runs Winter Park, Copper and Steamboat says it will lay off workers, but the amount of workers was not announced.
But Breckenridge is fighting back and getting creative in how it markets its ski town. The price to stay in Breckenridge is about to fall.
"The package that we put together includes lift tickets and lodging and it's about a 20 percent discount from last year," said Carly Grimes, spokeswoman for the Breckenridge Resort Chamber.
Earlier this week the BRC asked lodging companies to make packages that would entice travelers. It will now cost about $770 per person to spend a weekend in Breckenridge, down from $900 last ski season.
"Everyone is pretty nervous," added Grimes.
Hotel bookings are way down this year.
"Right now we're down 75 percent," said Mark Waldman, a property manager. "That's significant."
Most businesses are now taking their case online.
"We've never had to promote the holiday season before," Grimes said.
The prices are expected to go back up after the Christmas season when ski conditions improve.
