'Survivor' Villain Jonathan Sent Home

NEW YORK (CBS) ― Sheer disgust for Jonathan Penner by his tribe mates on CBS' "Survivor: Cook Islands" won out over any strategic thinking about keeping him around.

None of the remaining players liked him. Even more, they enjoyed a night away from him when Jonathan was dispatched to exile island during this week's episode. So Jonathan was an easy choice to be sent away.

If they'd done some thinking, it might have been worth keeping him around. When it's down to two contestants in what is essentially a popularity contest, it's a big advantage going up against someone everybody hates.

The "Survivor" cast members had an emotional reunion with someone from back home — a father, mother, wife, etc. The visitors even participated in a reward challenge and hung around camp for a while.

"I would be into this — for a day," said Jeannette, Sundra's mother, as she helped the tribe collect wood for a fire.

Parvati, after nearly slicing her thumb off cutting open a coconut, won a reward challenge and was taken with two other cast members to a grand feast.

Seething, the three hungry people left behind plotted to hide food from the others. But when the feasters returned bearing leftovers, all was forgiven.

A reward challenge involved leaping and climbing over a floating obstacle course. Lithe, dolphin-like Ozzy won easily.

By the way, another strategic move seems to be completely eluding everyone. Yul has let everyone know that he found the hidden immunity idol, which he can use once to protect himself against being voted off.

So why doesn't everyone else vote for Yul in a tribal council and force him to use it? Then everyone would be on equal footing.

Unless they figure that out, the soft-spoken management consultant will remain in control of the game.

A native of New York, Jonathan Penner is an actor, having had series regular roles on "Grapevine," "The Naked Truth" and "Rude Awakening." He also made guest-starring appearances in various series including CSI and "The Nanny," both on CBS, as well as "Seinfeld" and "Arrested Development."
