Katharine McPhee Guests On 'Ugly Betty'

'American Idol' Runner-Up Says She Loved Working With America Ferrera

Slideshow: Golden Globe Hair Do's And Don'ts

NEW YORK (CBS) ― "American Idol" season 5 runner-up Katharine McPhee will make a guest appearance as herself on the ABC comedy hit "Ugly Betty" Thursday night.

For McPhee, the appearance on the show was a welcome break from her recording and promotional schedule for her self-titled new album.

"It was so much fun," she told The Showbuzz. "It was a different kind of pace than I had working on the record and doing the promo for the record release. It was just a blast."

McPhee will be a celebrity guest at the fictional Mode Fashion Week runway show in the episode titled "I'm Coming Out."

"Ugly Betty" recently won a Golden Globe award for best television series — musical or comedy, and America Ferrera won Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild awards for her portrayal of the show's heroine, Betty Suarez.

"It just felt like you were on the set of something great," McPhee said of working on the show. "Everyone was just so happy to be working on a hit show."

She said that the day was a long one, and she was anxious about her appearance on the show. But, she said, Ferrera quickly calmed her nerves.

"My scene was so quick," McPhee said, snapping her fingers. "But, America Ferrera made it feel so easy. She was so sweet, she is just such a nice person to work with. Everyone on the set was so nice and made me feel really comfortable."

McPhee's self-titled album was released on Tuesday. The first single from the album is "Over It."
