3 Mo Divas Makes For A Rockin' Evening
DENVER (CBS4) ―
Okay, so it does begin with opera. It's nice opera. And all three of these singers are classically trained. So, it's also good opera. Quite beautiful to listen to. But, it's when we hit the pop and Broadway, soul and R&B, Gospel and more that "3 Mo' Divas" truly comes alive and rocks the Denver Center.
Three great performers with HUGE voices are on stage: Nova Payton, Laurice Lanier and Jamet Pittman. They work together, and, they work solo. It's in those solo moments that the show breathes artistic fire. Nova Payton is amazing with "Defying Gravity," the signature tune from "Wicked." Jamet Pittman does a beautiful job with "Your Daddy's Son," from "Ragtime." (In fact, it made me cry.) And Laurice Lanier is magnificent with "Solitude" and "God Bless the Child."
In some ways, the show is a theatrical concert, since there's no plot line on which to hang the songs, but there are characters developed and a lot of interaction with the audience that draws you right into the show itself. It's different from any musical revue I've seen coming through town.
And, frankly, this one also SOUNDS bigger than all the rest.
That is the key to the enjoyment of "3 Mo Divas."
