Police Release Pictures Of Underwear After Arrest
BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4/AP) ―
Boulder police are asking for the public's help in finding the owners of several dozen pairs of women's underwear that investigators say were stolen by a suspected voyeur.
Police say they recovered the garments Nov. 20 at the home of Wesley F. Cox, 44, of Boulder.
Cox did not immediately return a call seeking comment Wednesday night.
Police spokeswoman Sarah Huntley said Cox was arrested on Halloween night after he was caught videotaping a Boulder couple without their permission. She said two neighbors saw Cox videotaping the couple through a window and held him down until officers arrived.
The neighbors also stopped Cox from erasing the videotape, Huntley said.
"Two neighbors actually saw this gentleman standing outside a woman's window with a video camera on Halloween," Huntley said. "They confronted him and held him down until the police where able to arrive and they were also able to keep him from preventing the video tape, which gave us a great deal of helpful information."
Cox was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor trespassing, unlawful sexual contact and invasion of privacy, she said, adding that more charges are possible.
Huntley said Cox was released on bond from the Boulder County Jail but was arrested again Nov. 15 after police obtained a search warrant for his camera.
Police said the camera search turned up nude images of other, unidentified women; and a search of Cox's home yielded scores of women's underwear and garments allegedly stolen by Cox. They included a Boulder High School cheerleader's uniform, a bikini and dirty socks.
Investigators say Cox targeted women living within a 2-mile radius of his home. A police statement said it appeared he "broke into women's homes, stole their belongings and then became obsessed with the victims."
Cox is now free after posting $10,000 bond on Nov. 16, the Boulder Daily Camera reported on its Web site. He is due back in court Tuesday.
