It's not the usual vehicle for a joyride, but a man in Boulder made off with a steamroller early Tuesday morning.

People in the 1000 block of Tantra Drive were awoken to the sounds of the steamroller rumbling down the street at 2 a.m.

Witnesses told police they watched the man driving the steamroller crash into a parked van. That's when the driver ran away and police still haven't found him.

The steamroller belongs to the City of Boulder.

The keys were left in the ignition.

The rig had minor damage and was put back into service.
