New Trial Under Way In Weld Co. Murder
GREELEY, Colo. (AP) ―
A new murder trial is under way in Weld County after an earlier trial of John Paul Romero ended in a hung jury.
The 27-year-old Romero is accused of taking part in last year's shooting death of 44-year-old Luis Rocha. Investigators say Romero and three other men killed Rocha in a drug robbery. The other three have all been convicted of various charges related to Rocha's death. Romero is the suspected trigger man.
Romero's first murder trial ended in a hung jury April 30. Romero's second trial is again before Weld County District Judge Dan Maus.
Jury selection started Tuesday, with opening statements expected Thursday.
