'Furries' Woman Charged In Encounter With Teen
FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4) ―
A 45-year-old woman, involved with a group that meets and dresses up like animals, is accused of having sex with a teenage boy. Richael Michels has been charged with sexual assault on a child.
Fort Collins Police describe Michels as a furries fan. Officers arrested the mother for sexual assault on a 16-year-old boy.
'Furries' is a group described as people who sometimes dress in full animal costumes. Others might just wear a tail or regular clothes at gatherings. Many like to draw and animate animal characters.
According to the arrest warrant, investigators claim Michels met the alleged victim at a meeting of furries who dress up like animals. The warrant also states that the teen claims the two had intercourse many times in her car. In the warrant, Michels admitted to having sexual contact with the boy, but not intercourse.
Investigators said Michels' husband said she had recently become involved with the furries.
Michels is scheduled to appear in court next week on seven criminal charges, including sexual assault on a child and sexual contact to coerce a child.
Michels posted a $35,000 bond and is out of jail awaiting that hearing.
The Rocky Mountain Fur Cons is hosting a convention in Denver next month. The group said it is appalled by the accusations against one of their members.
